The Via Francigena from San Miniato to Rome is one of the most iconic cycling journeys in Italy, following the ancient pilgrimage route towards the Eternal City.
This section takes riders through the heart of Tuscany and into Lazio, crossing rolling hills, vineyards, cypress-lined roads and historic villages. From the Tuscan countryside to the volcanic landscapes near Viterbo, each stage offers a unique mix of scenery, culture and riding.
The terrain is varied and engaging, combining quiet secondary roads and sections of gravel, making it ideal for riders seeking an authentic and immersive experience.

Day 1 — Airolo Bike Park
Lift-assisted riding to maximize downhill time. Flow trails, technical lines and optional jumps allow riders to warm up, refine technique and build confidence. A perfect first day focused on progression and riding quality.

Itinerary
Day 1 — San Miniato → San Gimignano
Approx. 42 km | 840 m elevation gain
The journey begins in the heart of Tuscany, riding through rolling hills and classic countryside scenery. A perfect warm-up stage with steady climbs and quiet roads, leading to the iconic skyline of San Gimignano.
Overnight: Casolare Le Terre Rosse
Day 2 — San Gimignano → Buonconvento
Approx. 84 km | 1130 m elevation gain
A longer and more immersive stage across the Tuscan countryside. Vineyards, gravel sections and panoramic views define the day, as we ride deep into the Val d’Orcia region toward the charming village of Buonconvento.
Overnight: To be defined
Day 3 — Buonconvento → Radicofani
Approx. 53 km | 1,320 m elevation gain
A shorter but more demanding stage, featuring sustained climbing and a more remote atmosphere. The ride culminates with the ascent to Radicofani, one of the most scenic and historic highlights of the entire route.
Overnight: Agriturismo La Selvella
Day 4 — Vetralla → Formello
Approx. 57 km | 980 m elevation gain
After a morning transfer, we continue south into Lazio. The landscape begins to change, offering a mix of forested areas and quieter roads, with a smooth and enjoyable ride toward Formello.
Overnight: Antica Pietrara Formello
Day 5 — Formello → Roma
Approx. 36 km | 234 m elevation gain
The final stage into Rome. A shorter and mostly gentle ride that builds anticipation toward the finish, culminating with the arrival in the Eternal City — a memorable end to an iconic journey.

Day 2 — Passo del Sole
The most adventurous and demanding stage. Early start from the hut area near Lago Ritom, climbing into remote alpine terrain toward Passo del Sole. Long technical descents, exposure and raw mountain landscape define the day. A true high-mountain enduro mission.
Day 3 — Nara Bike Area
A final day of long, continuous descents in spectacular alpine scenery. Technical variety, speed and natural flow combine for a powerful conclusion to the experience.

What should I wear for the tour?
We recommend comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for cycling and the weather. Closed shoes are required. In cooler months, bring a light jacket or windproof layer.

Most of our tours are suitable for riders with basic cycling experience. Specific difficulty levels are indicated in each tour description.
What should I bring with me?
Bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and appropriate clothing for the weather. We recommend bringing a small backpack for personal items.
Are helmets included?
Yes. Helmets are provided and are mandatory for all participants.
What happens in case of bad weather?
Tours normally run in light rain. In case of severe weather conditions, we may reschedule or cancel the tour for safety reasons.
Do you provide bikes and equipment?
Yes. The tour includes the bicycle or e-bike and the necessary equipment unless otherwise specified in the tour details.
